Regulations updated

The 2022 Regulations of the FEtC-H have been amended. The September 2025 version was adopted by the Faculty Board and can be found here. The main changes are:

  • To avoid confusion with the GDPR legal basis ‘consent’, the term “informed consent” has been removed from the text: in principle, the GDPR’s legal basis ‘public interest’ basis can often be used for academic research;
  • A validity period for approval of the FEtC-H has been included.
  • Researchers must have basic knowledge of relevant concepts; in the future, an online training course on ethics, privacy/GDPR, and data management will be developed for all researchers;
  • A dispute procedure has been added to the complaints procedures.

Do you have any questions about ethical assessment within Humanities in general? Or specifically about the ethical aspects (including privacy and data management) of your research? Please contact the FEtC-H, the privacy officers or the data manager.
